Adventures In Foot Long Eating

So if there’s one thing I’m coming to learn, if you work in Sackville you are surrounded by places to eat. Here I am thinking it’s only our good friends at Chef’s Menu (and the amount of food I’ve eaten from there as Sportsland catering, so I know about them and god love Chef’s Menu) But in the last 2 days I had a footlong sub from Kaiser’s and a footlong hot dog from True North diner. wpid-20140522_120818.jpgGot to give Kaiser’s credit, this sub reminded me of the old Sydney River Subway Deli (not the fast food chain). Had a roast beef with dijon mustard. Exactly what I wanted, a sub that is homemade and just a quality eating experience. I know some Sackvillians have talked this place up and it did deliver. Next time I don’t think I’ll get the footlong.

We were there for Emily the intern’s final day at Eastlink. So it’s a fifty’s restaurant the waitresses wearing long skirts and tennis sneakers like the real deal. So I decide what the hell I’ll have this hot dog with cheese, bacon, bbq sauce, and mushrooms. The waitress asked “Do you want to make that a foot long?”

I thought about it for a second and said yes, not realizing yeah that’s a foot long hot dog.  When this thing showed up I was left with a decision to make, do I want to be known as the guy at work that ordered a foot long hot dog and didn’t eat it all. The answer of course is no.  I went to it, I had to knife and fork it but I went at it. After I was done I had a deep regret. In a restaurant where the average age was 58 I was the one most likely to have a heart attack.

Later that night I was at my friends party for becoming a doctor (Dr. Derek MacDonald who told me if I end up seeing him… I’m in trouble). At this party there was a lot of great food as well (bacon wrapped scallops, meatballs, homemade cookies, all that good stuff)

I ate so much food on Friday that still at 3 am I was stuffed, laying in bed wondering just how in the hell was I going to fall asleep.

Would I go back to True North, yes. Am I done eating foot long foods, yes.
